Our organization's website is the world's largest and most comprehensive information and educational hub for all things pertaining to egg decorating or egg art. What is egg art? It is the art or craft of decorating eggs. Some people call it egg decorating and some call it egg art. Egg art is a form of creative self-expression that involves decorating eggs with various materials, techniques, and themes. The art of decorating eggs has evolved into something separate from religious rituals, proving to be a new form of creative expression. Artists today are taking the art of decorating eggs to the next level. There are so many different styles of egg art. More common styles include pysanky, batik, carving, Fabergé style, etching and more. It is amazing there are so many different ways to make an ordinary eggshell into an exquisite piece of art! Our team has already made great progress and we have lots of exciting plans in the works. We are adding new content almost daily. Make sure to visit the Resources section where you will find suppliers, books, videos, show dates, teachers, helpful hints, patterns and more to make your own decorated eggs. From children to advanced artists there is something for everyone to enjoy and learn. • Jovica Mirosavic | EAI

< Back Jovica Mirosavic EAI Representative for Serbia My passion for this beautiful and delicate art began 13 years ago with my first encounter. It was love at first sight when I saw artistically carved eggshells. Besides my love for carving, I also greatly enjoy creating new clichés for my works. I find inspiration mostly in nature and its diverse variations. Additionally, I love to share my knowledge and skills with aspiring artists or those looking to improve in this field. I've managed to devise and realize the production of a special tool, of which I am very proud, greatly facilitating work and which was a dream of mine when I began my artistic career. I enjoy incorporating special lighting into my carved sculptures, which further emphasizes the work and adds a new dimension and effect to my artistic expression. When carving my pieces, my aim is to infuse them with a serene and beautiful energy that, upon completion, transports the viewer into an extraordinary world of harmony, calming and relaxing them, inducing a meditative state of mind. I love challenges, constantly striving for improvement, and reaching towards new creative horizons

  • Mark Malachowski | EAI

< Back Mark Malachowski MAP Judge Hey Folks, I’m an Ohio native and I’ve lived in Northeast Ohio all my life. I studied art education at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Case Western Reserve University. Since 1987 I’ve called Berea my home and is where we raised our 3 children. I’m a very proud grandpa of two grandsons and we’re very fortunate that we get to see them almost every day (my daughter and son-in-law moved around the block from us and our backyards connect). So, I’ve been writing/creating batik eggs since 2002. It all started when my wife purchased one of UGS’s beginner’s pysanky kits from a local craft store. She thought it would be a fun way for me to dye some eggs with the children that Easter. Well, the kids lost interest after a couple hours but, I kept writing all night and haven’t stop since then. I think right away I began to create my own designs and really enjoy the entire process. Many years ago I taught my first class at PUSA retreat and then eventually began to host my own workshops. This year will be our third year hosting Pysanky On The River or “POTR”. This is a weekend egging event held in Berea Ohio. This year there will be 80 egg artists from across the US and Canada in attendance.

  • Rebekah Brown, USA

Gold Award < Back Rebekah Brown, USA September 10, 2024 Gold Award CATEGORY: Carved PATHWAY: NA TYPE OF EGGS: Emu This carved Emu eggshell is titled “Roses through the Windowpane”. The eggshell was carved using a NSK Presto II air driven handpiece, with burrs measuring 1/16th inches in diameter. I primarily used diamond burrs for the relief carving portion (the shape being several size balls, footballs and wheel) and switched to a straight carbide for the cut-outs. For the lay-out portion, I used thin washi tape to get the correct proportions, and then clear transfer sticker paper for the roses. The eggshell stand is Sapele wood and finished with beeswax. I turned the stand on a wood lathe from a 4x4x4 inch block. The inspiration for this pattern came to my mind after reading the book, “The Secret Garden”, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Roses hold special meaning in the book, and the window shapes are based on a Tudor style diamond lattice window. I don’t know that any special techniques were used, except to be careful and gentle with the piece. nes I have made up in my mind. Previous Next

  • Karon Hanlon

Silver Award < Back Karon Hanlon March 5, 2024 Silver Award CATEGORY: Pysanky/Batik PATHWAY: Accelerated TYPE OF EGGS: Goose This egg was done for "Pysanky for Ukraine" day, so some of its symbols were particularly chosen to represent Ukraine. It has an intricate band running halfway across the top and bottom of the egg in two directions, each ending in a fan of prayer shawls depicting wheat (Ukraine's primary export and a symbol of prosperity and hope for a good harvest). The band has the 8-pointed star with a "jewel" inside representing Christ as the treasure of Ukrainian culture. Beside the fans are pussy willows, done in great detail. These represent Palm Sunday, and are meant to show the passion (suffering) through which Ukraine is passing, and the hope of resurrection after the passion. The egg was mainly done using traditional pysanky techniques, but additional techniques were employed. There is some etching, so that the primary lines are somewhat raised. Some shading was used, particularly on the "jewels". The pussy willows were first done in grey, and then scratched at the top of each one to make them appear fuzzy and to make them grey at the bottom and white nearer to top. Previous Next

  • Yuliya Goloida

Silver Award < Back Yuliya Goloida January 25, 2025 Silver Award CATEGORY: Pysanky Diaspora PATHWAY: NA TYPE OF EGGS: Goose This pysanka is a diasporan pysanka, designed and written by myself. The imagery is deeply personal and references meaningful and traditional objects from my Ukrainian wedding ceremony. The centre band down the middle of the egg features the pattern from the “rushnyk” or embroidered tapestry that was used during the ceremony and placed under the “Korovai” or wedding bread. The band on the pysanka features yellow flowers and intricate details of crosses and dots to represent the embroidery seen on the rushnyk. The front face of the egg includes the Korovai itself with the same intricate details as on my real Korovai such as grapes, two doves, wheat, rings, flowers, and berries. These traditional symbols on the Korovai represent wishes for the newlyweds: grapes=to be fertile and plentiful; wheat =prosperity and bounty; the rings= eternal union and the joining of two souls, doves= represent the newlywed couple; the flowers= beauty and happiness in life. The reverse face of the egg includes my wedding bouquet. A large and bountiful assortment of colourful flowers such as peonies, anemones, delphinium, dahlias and tiny chamomile of miniature daisy with a red ribbon tying it all together. Some special techniques employed in this pysanka design include spot dying to try and capture the depth of the floral bouquet with different botanical tones. There is also a gradient dying technique used to highlight and emphasize the bouquet with a saturated blue edge that also brings contrast to the decorative border. Previous Next
