This egg was done for "Pysanky for Ukraine" day, so some of its symbols were particularly chosen to represent Ukraine. It has an intricate band running halfway across the top and bottom of the egg in two directions, each ending in a fan of prayer shawls depicting wheat (Ukraine's primary export and a symbol of prosperity and hope for a good harvest). The band has the 8-pointed star with a "jewel" inside representing Christ as the treasure of Ukrainian culture. Beside the fans are pussy willows, done in great detail. These represent Palm Sunday, and are meant to show the passion (suffering) through which Ukraine is passing, and the hope of resurrection after the passion. The egg was mainly done using traditional pysanky techniques, but additional techniques were employed. There is some etching, so that the primary lines are somewhat raised. Some shading was used, particularly on the "jewels". The pussy willows were first done in grey, and then scratched at the top of each one to make them appear fuzzy and to make them grey at the bottom and white nearer to top.
