The symbols I used for my design are: stars, crosses, netting, meandering, triangles,

diamonds, and wheat.

I begin every pysanka by dividing the egg into sections, creating the boxes where the

main symbols will live. Using beeswax heated in my kistka, I draw each line with

intention. As I write, I keep my thoughts warm and kind so the egg is filled with intentions and love. Once I am ready to put my egg in the first color, I would give it a

quick rinse with vinegar; this helps the color penetrate. After each color I let the egg sit

for about 10 minutes before I start waxing again. I find this works well to see if any

areas are leaking or didn't cover as well as you would like. The first symbol I wrote on this egg was the diamond, representing wisdom and knowledge, and the triangles for the Holy Trinity. From there, I added stars, symbols of Christ and divine guidance.

Around the egg, I wrote meanders; they are continuous lines that have no beginning

and no end — a reminder of eternal life. As I moved into the next color, I worked on the

crosses. I used two different styles to give the egg texture and depth. Crosses

symbolize Christ’s suffering and the strength that comes through faith, and the four corners of the world. Next came the wheat, written subtly in the background. Wheat carries the meaning of a good harvest and positive outcomes, a quiet blessing woven into the design. I used a paintbrush to add the color to this area, as I only needed it in this particular symbol. The fine netting across the egg symbolizes separating good from evil, offering protection and clarity. Every line, every symbol, carries purpose.
